T-minus 4 days till the end of the school year!! My how time fly's by and gearing up for our summer schedule.
Our RHS Boys Basketball Camp will start a week earlier than normal because RHS is hosting summer school, May 29th through June 1st. That will kick-off what will be a very busy month of June of camps and workouts. As a staff we are excited to get going and start our journey towards next winter. As every off-season is, very important to put the work in and make sure no one is outworking us. Hopefully we can gain on teams above us and at the same time, separate ourselves from teams below us.
We will keep everyone informed as much as possible moving forward through out the summer!!

Well if you were not able to attend Tuesday's game at Lincoln, you missed an excited, bizarre, and fun game!! To start the game started late by 25 minutes b/c two rows of lights would not work in the main gym and found out they could not be fixed. Both coaches decided to play as we have been in gyms before which were darker, BACK IN THE DAY:). Then with 3:13 left in the 3rd quarter, the fire alarms went off and the game was delayed for another 45 minutes. Everyone had to evacuate the gym minus the players which causes some tense moments as coaches to think about how the flow of the game would continue.
The game continued and talk about back and forth game where no team led by more than 4 points the rest of the game. We led almost from start to finish minus one possession Lincoln took the lead by one and we were tied twice in the 4th quarter. But the boys stayed composed and stuck together as a team and FINISHED STRONG. The entire staff was so proud of the boys and could not be happier for them and Roosevelt High School.
We finished the game by going 6-6 from the FT Line and held on to a 64-60 win and secured a berth into the State Tourney out in Rapid City next week.
Bracket has been released and we will play Mitchell on Thursday night at 6pm Mountain time. Be our first meeting with the Kernals since the 09-10 season so both teams will be excited to roll the ball out there. We will take it one game at a time and get ourselves ready for Mitchell on Thursday Night!!
Take a look at the Team Information Page for all information related to next weekends State Tourney!
Go Riders,
Coach Taylor
Very good evening for the Rough Riders last night as the program went 5-1 overall. Freshman "A", Sophomore, JV, and Varsity all got nice wins with the Freshman "B" only suffering a 3 point loss in a game that went back and forth. JV team record stands at 13-2 as a nice group of Juniors and Sophomores continue to compete at a high level and came together as a team. It is always tough sometimes at that JV level b/c the roster can change a lot over the course of the season.
Next up is an East side match-up at Washington High School. Back in January they came over here and got a nice win vs. Varsity and one of the two losses for the JV team. Hopefully we can have a repeat performance last night out of the program and shoot for a 6-0 evening. Going to be really tough and all teams will have to be ready to go as Washington is playing really well. They have a strong team led by one of the best Point Guards and Post Players in State - Joey Habtemariam and Tyler Shetterly.
Hope to see many of you out there tomorrow evening!!!
Big win tonight.....60-42. Started down 6-0 and then finished 1st quarter on 15-1 run. Defense carried us tonight. Only negative thing was Tom Nugteren only played 3 minutes before getting injured. We will keep you posted on how long he wil be out for but won't be playing tomorrow.
Also, sub-varsity boys as well 57-40
Tomorrow we try and close out the weekend with 2 more wins over at RC Stevens. Be another tough challenge!
Officially have arrived in Rapid City and checked into the hotel. Easy and calm trip over minus seeing a semi in the median from the other side. Little down time till we head out for our team meal at Boston's Gourmet Pizza. Once we arrive back at the hotel, quick little rest before we head to the gym and get ourselves ready for game time. Austin Bramley will try and keep you all posted during the game if we have wireless at the arena. Time to roll the ball out there and see where we are and at as a team!!! GO RIDERS!!
Coach Taylor
Try-outs officially over.....always a tough day but excited moving forward and to start preparing us for the first game. Starts next Friday out West vs RC Central. Take it one game at a time and get better every opportunity we get. Rosters will be posted online tomorrow once we hand out uniforms.
Let's get started.....t-minus 8 hours till we get started and can not wait. I know the boys seem very excited and all the work they put in since last May will finally be on display! Looking forward seeing how all the boys progressed since last year in a practice setting. We will keep you all posted and Rosters will be posted on W
